Enzymes which contain DPP-IV may help to digest casein and gluten more effectively. If you suspect your child has problems with casein and gluten, even if your child is already on a restricted diet, these enzymes may help to safeguard against small infractions.

Phosphatidylcholine is the primary structural and functional component of brain cells. Supplementing phosphatidylcholine can improve brain acetylcholine (a neurotransmitter) concentration and therefore improve memory.

A very similar supplement is commonly called Alpha GPC (glycerylphosphocholine or glycerophosphocholine). There has been much study on this supplement with stroke victims and the results are impressive in restoring brain function.

Pycnogenol is a powerful antioxidant. It is capable of crossing the blood brain barrier.

Used at higher doses it can also act as an anti-inflammatory.

Melatonin can work as a brain antioxidant. Children with difficulties often take melatonin to great benefit.

DMG (dimethylglycine) or TMG (trimethylglycine) may both play a role in regulating the excitatory/inhibitory balance of neurotransmitters in the brain.

5-HTP is able to cross the blood brain barrier and increase brain serotonin levels. 5-HTP can also scavenge free radicals very effectively.

GABA can be of help to children with inappropriate GABA to glutamate ratios which can result in excitotoxicity in the brain. Often children who are low in GABA require more vitamin B6 in order to complete the conversion from glutamate to GABA
