Mel Thomsett (Treating Autism Team)

They sent a urine sample to the Autism Research Institute which showed gluten was an issue and so resolved to remove it. Within a few days Archie had calmed, stopped head-butting walls, floors and people and was even seen sitting down for a few seconds at a time! They knew we were onto something at last. Now, after almost three years of dietary intervention, they are working with the Autism Treatment Trust in Edinburgh to monitor his dietary needs. They also run a part-time home programme with Growing Minds, alongside Archie's special school placement. " I can't say life is easy just yet, but our son is now happy, co-operative and most importantly, not in pain. " This means he is now able to access learning and relationships. He is now able to speak simple social requests such as 'Mummy chase me', and we have been able to work on practical skills like going to sleep at bedtime(!) and using the bathroom. Finding 'Treating Autism' was a real turning point for them and so they are happy to share their story with you.
